The BCI classifications are based upon your responses in the BCI questionnaire. They measure the level of preparedness to attempt a cultural border crossing and the degree of congruence between the departure and destination cultures.
The departure culture is where you are now – the world of your family and community. The destination culture is where you are heading – either to employment in the private sector or studying at a university where the language of instruction differs from your own.
The greater the differences between these two cultures, the potentially more difficult will be the border crossing experience which may also affect the length of time that you spend in the destination culture.
